Consisting of 78 races where thoroughbreds can automatically qualify to run at Keeneland in the 2015 Breeders' Cup World Championships, each of these Grade I races will be held in countries spanning the globe in order to find the best of the best.

Read on to learn about the Breeders' Cup Challenge and to view the 2015 schedule!

How the Breeders' Cup Challenge Works

Simply put, the Breeders' Cup Challenge is a series of Grade I stakes races held throughout the year that trainers and owners can enter their horses in. Winning one of these races instantaniously grants the horse entry into the Breeders' Cup championship race that pairs up with the particular Challenge series race.

In addition to automatic entry, the Breeders' Cup Challenge winners have their entry and starting fees waived. In addition, if the horse is coming in from a state outside the host state (Kentucky), they will receive travel stipends.

The Breeders' Cup Challenge Schedule

Now, the following stakes races have been added to the schedule: the Gran Premio Criadores at Palermo in Argentina, the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood in England, the Sword Dancer and Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga, the Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs, the T. Von Zastow Stutenpreis at Baden Baden in Germany, and the Princess Rooney and Smile Sprint Handicap at Gulfstream Park.
